Dear Host Family,
First of all, I want to thank you for giving me this extraordinary chance to live and study in the United States for a year. I really appreciate the generosity in welcoming me to your home.
It’s so exciting to be able to write to you to give you a better idea of who I am. My name is Magda and I am a Polish student with a bubbly, open and unique personality. I'm really creative, confident and passionate about the things that I love. I'm always ready for new adventures, and I see this exchange as the next big one.
I come from a fairly small family and am an only child. I live with my dad- Paweł and my mom- Małgorzata. We love spending time together, whether it’s watching movies, eating meals, or just talking. My family has always supported me in everything I do, and they’ve played a big role in shaping who I am today. They constantly encourage me to try new things and step out of my comfort zone. I’m really lucky to have them. But it’s not just my parents that I live with, I also have a dog named Rafi. We adopted him from an animal shelter three years ago when he was just five months old. My dog very often ignores his dog bed at night and sleeps in my bed instead, I don’t mind though, because I love him a lot.
I go to one of the best schools in the country, and even though it's quite challenging, I manage to do well. I’m a sophomore, and I study extended biology, chemistry, and math. I've always been the youngest in my class since I was born in December but I think it makes me very mature for my age. Outside of class, I’m involved in school activities, such as organizing annual festivals (film, theatre and music), organising a Model United Nations conference, the debating league, and badminton. I really like being involved in school initiatives as it keeps things exciting and allows me to make new friends.
I have many hobbies and consequently don’t always have enough time to enjoy all of them in one day! First of all, I love staying active with climbing and rollerblading. These activities help me destress, and whenever I put on my climbing shoes or rollerblades, I forget about everything else and focus solely on what I’m doing. I also really enjoy debating, especially in the Model United Nations format. MUNs help me stay aware of global issues, sharpen my critical thinking, and give me the opportunity to speak up for causes I care about. In addition to that, I love creative activities, whether it’s making videos, photography, digital art, coloring books, or sewing. These activities allow me to express my creativity, which is something I truly value. Whenever I have free time, I always listen to music, it keeps me positive and happy. I also absolutely love going to concerts. The energy and passion that live music brings is incredible. It’s a very emotional experience for me, and I love how people from completely different backgrounds can come together and connect over the same music.
I’ve always been interested in American culture, but the moment I realized that doing an exchange was actually possible was in sixth grade, during COVID, when I came across a video of a past exchange student. From that point on, I knew I wanted to experience it for myself. The idea of living in a new place, learning in a different environment, and immersing myself in a completely different culture has excited me ever since. I believe that both American and Polish culture are one of a kind. I can't wait to show you my traditions, my delicious food and tell you about my life. I know this exchange is an experience that I’ll never forget. I believe it will help to shape me, broaden my perspectives and generally help me grow as a person.
And here I am, extremely excited for what lies ahead, anticipating all the new experiences, as well as the challenges that I will face. I can't wait to immerse myself in American culture.
Thank you so much for considering me as your host daughter and I hope that we can speak soon!
