GABRIEL
's Letter
Dear host family,
Thank you so much for being willing to participate in the exchange program and accepting me to live with your family.
My name is Gabriel, I am a 16-year-old Brazilian boy and I am in the middle of high school. One of my dreams was live in US, but I never thought that nowadays I would be writing a letter for my new family in a few months. I think that in life we need to get experiences, try new things, meet people, make friends and this is what I want to my life.
I woud like to share a little bit of my life with you. I live with my dad, my mom, my sister and four pets, one dog and three cats. My dad is a musician, my mom's name is a speech therapist, with specialization on autistic childrens. Both of my parents are well known by their profession in our city and that is very gratifying for me. About my sister, we are twins, we study in the same school and both like to play basketball, a lot of people ask if we fight so much, but we are very close and always together and helping each other. Other thing about my family is that we are really close, have much love involved, deep talks about everything, there is no secrets on my family.
Since I was youger, my dream was be a basketball player as my sister, me in NBA and she in WNBA.This idea started in 2019, when my sister encouraged me starting basketball lessons, after the first class I have never stopped playing, training and improving everyday. The years passed and with much hardworkand, last year in July I went to Los Angeles to go on a basketball camp, there we had tournments, discovered tourist attractions in the city, visited the Crypto arena, UCLA and a lot of other things, it was pretty amazing! Arriving in Brazil when the camp has finished, I realized that basketball isn't for me, I am too small for playing professionally, and for this reason, I left my dream to be a professional player. Although, I continued my life, I still love basketball and playing everyday as a hobby, but now I am focused in other things, I want to join a medicine course in college, I like to go to gym everyday, sometimes with my mom and my sister, we try to have a balanced diet, based on potato and chicken which are low in fat, and I like candy but I prefer salty foods. Other thing important to me and that I really like is playing videogames, I like to play Fortnite, Valorant and I have already fineshed uncharted and The Last of Us, I play on weekends, and I always go out with my friends on weekends as well, we go on kart, we play basketball and soccer, go to the movies and theather.
With this high school exchange program in the US, I expect to know more about the country and its culture, improve my English skills, meet new people, make friends, I would like to play some sport in school, if possible, and I think that could be interesting to have host siblings to make me company, help in school, get more confidence to be more social. I am very happy and looking forward to meet my host family.
I am certain that this year will be amazing, with much learning, experiences and full of good memories.
Hope to see you soon!
Gabriel
