Dear future host family,
Thank you for taking me in and giving me the opportunity to live with your family and get to know life in your country. I would like to introduce myself to show you who I am. My name is Marlon and I come from Germany and live in a small town (12,000 inhabitants) near Berlin. I live here with my parents, my brother and my sister. We live in a house with a view of our garden. We also have a cute cat who is 6 years old, her name is Luna. My parents are both employed. My father is a police officer in Berlin and my mother is an accountant.
At the moment I attend a local high school (10th grade). This school is only a 10-minute walk away. My sister attends the same school (9th grade) and my brother is currently studying in Berlin. My brother also spent an exchange year in the USA four years ago, he was in New Mexico and his great experiences made me even more enthusiastic about gaining such experiences.
I'm the sporty, active type, which is why sport is my favorite subject at school. One of my favorite hobbies is skiing in winter. I also used to do judo, and I've been playing soccer in a club for more than 6 years now. I go to training there twice a week. I also play the drums and go to lessons once a week. I am also an enthusastic NFL fan and often try to watch games at the weekend.
I really enjoy cooking and baking. Sometimes I cook for my family or bake a cake at the weekend. On the one hand, I like to meet up with my friends and spend time with them, I really enjoy this time. On the other hand, I also enjoy the time I spend with my family, for example when we play board games together.
I love to traveling on vacation during my vacations. I like to visit my relatives or travel to other countries with my family and friends. Every year we are a big group and always have a lot of fun. During the winter vacations we go to Italy together to ski and in the summer we go to Lake Garda in Italy together to have a good time. I also went to summer camp in Austria with a friend 3 years ago.
I am open to new cultures and ready to get to know new people. I am really looking forward to seeing new things in the world. I want to travel to America because I want to see how you live and how life in America differs from life in Germany. I also want to strengthen my personality and self-confidence. I hope I can pursue some of my hobbies in America, but I would also like to try something new. Family is very important to me, which is why I decided to live with a host family and not do a work-and-travel year.
If you ask about my characteristics, I think I am cheerful, fun-loving, responsible and social. That's why I want to see America as a citizen of society and not as a tourist. I hope we can create many wonderful memories together that we will not forget. I am very much looking forward to get to know you soon.
I hope you have been able to get a first impression of me.
Best regards
Marlon
