's Letter

Dear American family, We're going to be together for ten months, and the first objective is to get to know each other and of course to improve our communication by learning the language day by day. I'm looking forward to sharing the daily life of an American family, which must be very different from my own: meals, hobbies, TV, going out... I also want to meet as many people as possible so that I can learn about their way of life and traditions while improving my English. I'm passionate about cars and I'd be delighted to be able to share this passion with you, whether by chatting or watching car races. It's a passion I discovered 2 years ago and today I couldn't live without cars. I share this passion with my best friend and my brother. I also love basketball and I've been playing at club level for 3 years in France. In fact, I was lucky enough to go to New York at the beginning of 2025 and see a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden. It's also a passion I discovered with my best friend, and without him, I'd probably never have taken up the sport. I think you may have gathered, but I have a best friend who I've known since the age of two and who has always been my best friend, with whom I share two passions: cars and basketball. I have another best friend who I met when I was eight and who has been my best friend for three years now, and whom I consider a brother. I have also acquired a licence as an official referee for departmental basketball. I'd also love to discover different American sports such as baseball, American football, hockey and especially American basketball. I love travelling, as I said before I was able to travel to New York in early 2025 and I've never enjoyed anything so much in my life, whether it's the atmosphere, the food or even the people. I like to cook occasionally, with my mum and dad; I often prepare food, make cookies, cakes and lots of other things. And I love going out to do activities with my friends like escape games, paintball, eating or even just sitting and chatting with them. I'm also looking forward to discovering the American school system, which must be very different from the French one. I'd also love to share with you different aspects of French culture like food, cars ;), and lots of other things... My parent's, my brother and my friends describe me as kind, loyal, enthusiastic and a bit of a slacker. I think they're right ;) My parents are separated and I live with my mother most of the time. At my dad's, the house is recent with a large garden. I have a swimming pool, a basketball hoop and a game computer. At my mother's, I have a very cool bedroom and a computer. My mother's house is very old (circa 1970). It's a village cottage with a lot of old charm, old stones, wooden beams and a cheni and a very nice view on the heights of the village. I have two cats at my dad house and their name is Samy and Galla and at my mum house i have one cat and her name is Réglisse (Licorice in English) because she as the colour of the licorice. My cat, Réglisse, isn't very affectionate but we love her because she's always present whenever we move around the house and she's funny when she “talks” to us; in fact, she's a bit like a dog ;-) Now you know everything, or almost everything ;-) I hope to meet you soon, Romain Navenant
