Linda
's Letter
Dear Host Family,
First of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
My name is Linda, I was born in August and I come from a small village in Germany. I am currently attending secondary school, where I will get my Realschule diploma this year. While I don’t always look forward to waking up early for school, I’m always excited to see my friends there. My favorite subjects are sports, music, history, and chemistry. I’ve worked very hard this year to improve my grades and have made great progress. I take my education seriously and have given my best to make this dream of an exchange year a reality. I’m excited to hold my diploma with pride at the end of the year.
I am an open and friendly person who loves meeting new people and learning about different cultures. I have a great sense of humor and love to laugh, but I can be a little shy at first. Once I feel comfortable, I am an enthusiastic and positive person who is open to new experiences and grateful for every opportunity.
In my free time, I enjoy meeting friends, watching my favorite series, crafting gifts for family and friends, and most of all, dancing. Dancing is my biggest passion, and I hope I can continue it during my stay in America and perhaps even learn something new. I also love spending time with animals, whether with my own dog or other pets.
Animals have always been an important part of my life, and I enjoy taking care of them.
A typical day for me includes coming home from school, walking my dog, and cooking something for myself or together with my family. Afterward, I like to relax by watching TV or browsing social media before finishing my school homework. I also attend dance training once a week and it’s the highlight from all days for me. Last year, I worked as a waitress in a local restaurant, which I enjoyed, but I had to stop because of my school commitments, but but it was a great experience.
Ever since I was a child, spending a year abroad in America has been one of my biggest dreams. I’ve always admired the United States, its diverse states, and its vibrant culture. This exchange year will allow me to improve my English skills, which I know will be important for my future career, and it will give me the opportunity to gain new experiences and broaden my perspective.
My hobbies include dancing, baking, spending time with friends, and listening to music. I also enjoy bowling, playing table tennis, skiing, ice skating, crafting, camping, and fitness. So i think we can do much activities together.
I’m very excited to learn more about your family’s traditions , culture and daily life in America. In return, I would love to share my own culture with you. I grew up bilingual, speaking both Czech and German, and I’d be happy to teach you about the traditions and customs of these two cultures if you’re interested.
A little about my family: My mother, Jitka , is 50 years old and works as a nurse. She has always supported me and made this year abroad possible for me. I am so grateful for everything she has done. I have no contact with my biological father, but my stepfather, Rico , has been a big part of my life. He is 55 years old and works in construction. He does a lot for our family and even helps my grandparents, who live in the Czech Republic. My grandparents only speak Czech, and they played a big role in my upbringing. I still visit my grandparents often and cherish the time I spend with them.
I was born in Germany but spent most of my childhood in a small Czech village where I grew up. Everyone knew each other and helped one another, which felt like being part of one big family. I also have an older sister, Daniela, who is 23 years old. She is a nurse like my mom and is currently volunteering abroad.
Our family also includes my dog and cat. I take care of my dog with love and dedication, whether it’s walking, feeding, grooming, or playing with him. My cat is another special companion, and I love cuddling with him whenever I can. Although we lost our second cat, I still cherish the happy memories we had together.
Thank you again for taking the time to read my letter. I am so excited to meet you, get to know your family, and experience American life. I look forward to learning about your culture, sharing mine with you, and making unforgettable memories during this adventure.
Best regards,
Linda
