's Letter

Dear Future Host Family, I’m so excited to finally introduce myself to you! The thought of becoming a part of your family and experiencing life in the USA feels like a dream come true. Thank you for giving me this opportunity—it truly means a lot to me. I hope you are all doing well and are as excited about this experience as I am! Family is a very important part of my life, and I’d love to tell you a little more about mine. My name is Helen, and I live with my family near a bigger city in Germany. We live in a house, and I often use my bike to get around. My family consists of my two mothers, Heike and Mandy, my twin sister Martha, and my older sister Hanna. Mandy is a teacher, and we share a close bond. She loves running, and we often go for walks together—I really admire her determination and the support she always gives me. Heike is also a teacher; she always listens to me and is involved in everything I do. Hanna is a wonderful older sister; we go to the city together, she shares her favorite music with me, and she gives me advice. Martha and I are very close too—we both practice gymnastics and always help each other. We are an open and fun-loving family that spends most weekends together, whether we’re playing games, cooking, or just enjoying our garden. We also love doing sports together and visiting our grandparents. When we travel, we prefer warm places because we all adore the sea and the beach. I also enjoy going to the mountains to watch sunsets; one of my best vacations was when I went skiing. At school, I love learning new things and spending time with my friends. My favorite subjects include science, history, math, English, and Spanish. I’m excited to discover what new subjects you offer and to experience an American high school. I’d love to try cheerleading or tennis and learn more about American culture. One of the things I’m most looking forward to is the school spirit—I’d love to go to a football game and experience that incredible energy firsthand! My half-sister Audrey, who lives in California, has inspired me a lot. She is a very cheerful person, and hearing about her experiences with the cultural differences between our countries has made me even more excited to take this step. I would describe myself as a positive person who loves learning new things, traveling, and summer. Family and friendships are very important to me, and I love creating special memories with the people around me. Spending time at the lake, cooking new recipes, and trying out different activities bring me a lot of joy. I’d love to cook something special for you and share a bit of my culture, just as I hope to learn from yours. I’m also interested in fashion and can’t wait to see how it differs in the USA. I imagine my upcoming year abroad as an emotional journey that will help me grow as a person. I believe that sharing experiences and working together as a family is very important. I also want to improve my English and make new friends, which I’m sure will lead to many unforgettable moments. Feeling confident in my English is crucial for my future because I want to be open in all forms of communication.
Most of all, I hope to truly connect with you and become part of your family. I want to contribute in any way I can, whether that’s helping around the house, sharing experiences, or bringing my own personality into your home. I know this year will be full of new experiences, challenges, and special memories, and I can’t wait to start this journey with you! Warm Regards, Helen
