Dear host family, My name is Lana and I will be staying with you next year, fulfilling my dream of spending a year abroad. The idea came to me in a rather spontaneous matter when I met a girl on holiday who also spent ayear abroad in the USA. Whenever I find myself in unknown situations, I can get pretty shy quickly. However, I start opening up the more I can adjust and with time, I will usually act a lot more outgoing. I would consider myself a very cheerful and friendly girl. Moreover, I am open to new experiences and like to try new things. I love to spend time with my family. My family consists of my dad, my mom, my brother and our dog. My dad is a master electrician, my mom is a teacher at an elementary school and my brother is currently completing an apprenticeship to become an office administrator. All three of them are busy with their careers a lot of the time and therefore away from home a lot. However, it’s very important to us as a family to spend as much time as possible together and to be able to talk about anything with each other. For that reason, we place great value on our family meals and the conversations we have during them. We love to play board games, to spend time in nature with our dog and to travel together. My friends are also extremely important to me, it is always a lot of fun to do activities with them. For instance, we like to go ice skating, shopping, or watch movies at the cinema. Another thing I greatly enjoy is driving with my dad on his motorcycle. If I can, I would love to absolve a motorcycle driving license as well before my year abroad starts. I love baking, especially when I can try out new recipes with friends from time to time. Whether we succcessfully master the recipes or not, it is always fun to try it out together. A newer hobby of mine is playing volleyball. I found out that I really love this sport this year, although I am most definitely still a beginner and need some practice. That is why I’m currently looking for a volleyball club to join so I can practice and improve my skills. If the opportunity arises, I would love to continue playing volleyball in the USA. As for my host family, I am hoping that we can have fun together and I wish that we get to experience great moments and make good memories. Seeing as I have a dog myself who I love so much, I would not mind pets in the household as all. Furthermore, I am also very independent and can take care of myself. When my parents do not have the time to cook for example, I have no problem cooking dinner myself. I would be very happy and thankful to have the opportunity to live with you and I would love to get to know you and your hometown. I am looking forward to my time with you! Best wishes, Lana
