's Letter
Dear Host Family,
I’m just here writing this letter and I can't believe this moment has finally arrived. Before explaining who I am, let me thank you in advance, for opening your home and showing such generosity with people like me that wants to live this experience. It seems to me a tremendously generous act.
I’m a Spanish girl in my third year of secondary education. I’m a very active person with many hobbies. Let me highlight that I love sports, ANY! I’ve played tennis, soccer, athletics, but as I had to choose one due to time constraints, I finally decided to join a basketball team in which I’ve been playing since I was 6 years old. I train many hours a week and that makes me very happy, as you can imagine I love the NBA.
Additionally, I need to mention that surfing is one of my all-time favorite sports. Unfortunately, I can only practice during summer break as we don’t live close to the sea, but since I started being very small, I falled in love with it. Sports are a basic for my live, helping me to organize myself and take the best of my time.
On the other hand, my other great hobby is reading. Since I was very little, I spent hours and hours reading, I don't know how many books I've been able to read already! I’m one of those people who enjoys spending my time sitting in a terrace in a sunny day with a book...what else?
Regarding my education, I’m really happy attending my school, I take my studies seriously, I’m organized and responsible, I like to participate in class and I get very good grades (A). Having said this, I don't get frustrated if I don't get the highest grade, because at the end of the day I did my best.
Within my extra school activities I’m also studying Cello musical degree, I’ve been studying music and playing this instrument since I was 6 years old and I’m part of the school orchestra. Actually, I’m not sure on my long term plans of which career I will study at university, but for sure will be something related to mathematics and physics.
In addition to my studies and sports, I do volunteer activities within my school, assisting the youngest in the dining room, or helping in the primary school during my break time with the subject that they are teaching at that moment.
The people I like to help the most are the elderly and young children.
I have a great family and we are very close. I live with my parents and my little brother who’s 10 years old and we do a lot of things together. My father is an engineer and in his spare time he is a rugby coach of 10 years old kids and he’s part of the NGO “Word Central Kitchen”, When COVID or during other emergencies he spent many time cooking for others. My mother is a chemist, she is a very cheerful and active person. She loves to take us out to tha theater to enjoy plays or musicals. My parents are always organizing meals for friends, so in my house everyone is welcome. We love travelling and meet new places. This is another reason why I want to go to the United States, because I would love to discover may new places of your country.
I want to learn and experience the American culture in order to familiarize with different customs and celebrations than in Spain. It seems to me that spending a year away from my environment and away from my family would help me growing as a person and help me gaining experiences and friendships that otherwise I would not have been able to get. I would like to bring Spanish culture closer to other people who don’t know it. We can learn a lot from each other in the exchange of customs, gastronomy or traditions. I promise to learn how to make Spanish “tortilla de patatas” so I can delight my American family.
Finally, I can easily adapt to any situation and need very little to be happy and who is really looking forward to this experience. All the people I know who have experienced an exchange like this agree on one thing, that the experience is unforgettable and that they take back great friendships that can last forever.
