Dear Host Family,
First of all, I want to sincerely thank you for welcoming me into your home for an entire year. This experience means so much to me, and I am truly grateful for your kindness and generosity in opening your hearts and doors to me. Having the chance to connect with new people, immerse myself in a different environment, and discover a new culture is a unique opportunity that I will remember forever. I am really looking forward to getting to know you, learning about your lifestyle, and creating some unforgettable memories together.
My name is Reid and I would describe myself as a sociable, reliable, and adaptable person, always ready to take on new challenges. I am also quite athletic, as I’ve been playing soccer since I was eight years old. It’s a sport I deeply love, and it has taught me important values such as teamwork, perseverance, and discipline. Playing sports is a big part of my life, and I would love to continue practicing in the U.S., if possible. I’m eager to try new sports and engage in various clubs and activities. My friends often describe me as friendly, playful, and, I must admit, a little stubborn sometimes. In my free time, I enjoy listening to music or watching films, sports programs or TV shows. Another passion I have is cooking, in particular some Italian dishes that I would love to have you to try.
I also love spending time with my friends. When we hang out, we often walk around the city center, or go to the cinema to watch a movie. These moments are very special to me because they allow me to unwind and have fun with my friends.
I haven’t yet decided which university I’ll attend after high school, but I am pretty sure that this experience in the U.S. will help me to find my place. Living abroad will give me the chance to grow as a person, discover my strengths, and make me understand the world around me better.
Now, let me tell you a bit about my family. There are four of us: my parents, Olsian and Desara, my younger sister Elena, and me. We also have a cat named Luna. I have a very close relationship with my parents and my sister. I love cooking with my mom or going shopping with her; she has taught me the importance of respecting people, to always be polite and that if I want something I have got to work hard to reach my goals. My dad and I share the passion for soccer. He introduced me to this sport when I was little; we also enjoy grilling together or watching matches on TV. My younger sister, Elena, is a bit shy but incredibly talented at drawing. I really admire her creativity, and I wish I had her skills, but unfortunately, art is definitely not my thing.
Here in Italy, my daily routine is pretty simple. I usually wake up at 7:15 a.m., I get dressed, I have breakfast, and I get to school. On sunny days I walk there, because it only takes about ten minutes to get there because I live close to school;but if the weather is bad, my mom drives me to school. I imagine that in the U.S., things will be a bit different, and I’ll probably need to wake up earlier and take the bus or get a ride to school.
My school day usually goes from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. After that, I come home and have lunch. Since my parents are usually at work and my sister is still at school, I often eat alone. I think it would be exciting to have lunch at school in the U.S. and spend time chatting with new friends. In the afternoon, I do my homework, watch TV, or I spend time cuddling my cat, Luna. Around 6:00 p.m., I have soccer practice, which finishes about 8:00 p.m. My family and I usually have dinner together and then we chat about how our day went or we play some card games. It’s a tradition I really enjoy, as it brings us closer together. After that, I usually go to bed about 10:30 p.m.
I truly hope to build a strong bond with you during my stay. I can’t wait to share this journey with you, and I’m confident that this year will be a great and unforgettable experience for all of us.
Thank you again for giving me this incredible opportunity.
Love,
Reid.
