Dear host family,
Thank you so much for being willing to participate in the exchange program and accepting me to live with your family.
My names is Joaquín, I am from Spain I have been living there my whole life. I have just finished my sophomore high school year. I would like to experience a cultural change that is why I believe that going to the USA is going to beperfect the perfect place. I can’t wait to get into this experience and share my own with you.
I love surfing. I am someone that loves outdoor activities like surfing, mountain biking, snorkeling, I also like motorbikes, jet ski and boats. I don't really like spending time indoors but I like watching movies and playing board games. I can speak two languages Spanish (native spoken)) and English with a medium-high level, I look forward to becoming fluent in English.
I have been surfing almost my whole life, when I was little I used to boogie boarding, when I grew up I started practicing long board and short board, now I'm really focus practicing knee boarding, my father taught me surfing and skateboarding.
Family is very important to me, and I’d love to tell you a bit about mine. My dad is a university lecturer and also runs the family business of electric engineering along with his brother, so he always has fascinating stories and advice to share. My mum works in a bank and is incredibly supportive and hardworking. I also have an older sister who spent a year in the U.S. on a similar exchange program. Hearing about her experiences inspired me to pursue this opportunity myself, and she has told me so many wonderful things about the american life and the kindness of host families. We are a really close family, we love to do plans together and I hope to become a part of your family as well.
I am also excited to share my Spanish heritage with you. Spain has a rich history and a vibrant culture that I’d love to introduce you to, from traditional dishes like paella and tortilla española to popular festivities like and the lively celebrations of our local festivals. I would be happy to cook some Spanish recipes for you and teach you a few Spanish words or expressions. I hope to give you a little taste of Spain and show you the warmth and joy that characterize our culture.
For my future career goals in life, I would like to work in something related to technology and programming future apps Also I see my life in my own office and maybe have my own company. Since one of my passions is surfing and enjoying the ocean I thought about running my own surf shop next to the beach and create my own surf brand. But for now, I’m excited to learn as much as possible about the American way of life, improve my English, and form lasting friendships.
Thinking about what this experience is going to offer me makes me realised how lucky I am to get to live such an amazing experience that I’ve always looked forward to. I am convinced that the hole experience is going to change me in a very positive way, being more independent and giving a different view to face the life issues.
Thank you again for opening your home and hearts to me. I can’t wait to meet you, share stories about my country, and create unforgettable memories together.
Warm regards,
Joaquín.
