's Letter

Dear future host family, I hope you are doing well and are as excited as I am for the time ahead! I think it is truly amazing that you are willing to welcome a student into your home - not everyone would do that, and I feel very lucky to have this opportunity. Therefore a sincere thanks. My name is Cara, and I live with my family in Germany. Currently, I go to a German grammar school. In my free time, I enjoy baking, listening to music, and drawing. My favorite hobbies are track and field as well as badminton. In fact, I have been doing track and field for quite a long time now and even work as a coach myself. This also includes taking part in competitions. It helped me to improve my personal and teamwork skills. Do you have a favorite sport? I am a caring, compassionate and fun-loving person as well, I often meet friends and discuss their issues with them. At school, I am the class representative to assert our interests. As mentioned, I train kids between the ages of 6 and 9. They can be very nerve-wracking but I try to be patient and helpful. My mom is very creative and spends a lot of her free time drawing or making beautiful decorations. She is also the best cook I know, and sometimes we cook together. I hope one day I can cook even half as well as she does! Do you enjoy cooking too? My mom is a really optimistic person and my biggest supporter. Speaking of positive people, my older sister is a bundle of energy! She loves singing and dancing and is often spreading her good mood to everyone around her. Right now, she is studying to become a teacher, so I have even picked up a bit of geography by helping her study. Coming to my dad. He is an avid runner and also works as a trainer for children in track and field. I guess my enthusiasm for it affected him. Besides coaching and running, my dad is always there to help me with my homework and is usually working on projects around the house at the weekend. For example, he built most of our pool himself, which I think is pretty cool. Of course, my mom, sister, and I helped as well! We usually have breakfast together during the school day. If possible, we have dinner together as well and talk about the day. I also take care of household chores e.g. clearing out the dishwasher. Once a week, I clean my room. Every year, my family and I go on a vacation together. This year, we visited Italy, where we explored the culture by visiting famous sites and enjoying the food. Have you ever been to Europe or a foreign country? I have also traveled with friends and without parents - last year, we went camping at a lake for a week, which was a lot of fun. We have set up the tent, bought food and been swimming in the lake, just enjoyed the time. At the moment, I do not have any concrete ideas for my future. But till the end of my grammar school I want to extend my experiences regarding other cultures and especially the English language. Both will help me later to make the right decision about my future and getting a good job. Maybe you can open my eyes for jobs I do not have in mind at the moment. The American high school differs from the one in Germany. School subjects are offered that do not exist at my school e.g. cooking or crafting. I am highly interested in the practice-oriented teaching and hope I can join exciting projects which give me new experiences. We live in a multicultural world. I am an open-minded person and want to get familiar with your culture and your daily life in the USA. All these experiences will help me to understand the life and behavior of your and other cultures in a better way, and I think also in my future career. Again a sincere thanks for reading my letter and I hope to meet you soon. Warm regards Cara
