's Letter
Dear Host family,
First of all, I would like to thank you for reading this letter and perhaps welcoming me !
In this letter I would like to tell you who I am and why this opportunity to come to the USA is my dream.
My name is Mathilde, I am a French girl. I live in a little village close to Timothée Chalamet’s french family.
I enjoy taking pictures and videos, capturing beautiful moments with my family and my friends and immortalizing them in my memories. I am crazy about traveling, I hope to see the whole world one day. I love reading romance or fantasy books. They’re like a possibility to travel, to escape from reality and discover new places, worlds and feelings. I love watching some movies or series. I enjoy baking or cooking : It calms me when I'm stressed out. I love acting because I feel like I understand and feel what the characters are going through, it allows me to see things differently. No matter what I'm doing I most of the time listen to music.
I’m a very curious girl, I tend to find every topic interesting.
As people say I am kind, helpful, smart and a happy person but I am also talkative. My dad will say about me that I do everything I need to make my dreams come true and I agree with him. But if it's not possible I always learn. I love taking care of people like my siblings, my cat or my friends...
Outside high school, I do theater and self defense but sometimes I have also some meetings for my high school.
Since I was a little girl I have been intrigued about the USA, the culture, the American way of live, the school system... It's a place of opportunity and a source of inspiration for writers and scriptwriters... I want to discover different classes than in France like psychology, pottery, US history... : maybe through these courses, I'll be able to completely decide what I want to do in the future. For so many years, on social media, I have watched some exchange students who were talking about everything they did, how they felt, how it was to live in a new country. It has always made me want to be one of them.
So there are also the American experience : Homecoming ball, spirit week, Prom, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New year eve ... In France we celebrate some of these traditions but I would like to discover new ones like I have seen them in books, in movies or on social media.
For me the « Highschool » experience is a fantasy. It's a possibility to see through new eyes, to live with a different family, to make new friends, to see new landscapes and new cities, to be maybe more independent, to cook and taste new food and most of all to go out of my safe place. I know it won't be easy, but it will allow me to grow and, I hope, to accept me the way I am and understand every part of myself.
I have always moved to a lot of different places in France so that's helped me to reach out more to others.
I'm close to my family, my parents are separated and don't live next to each other. Currently, I'm staying with my dad and my step mother. I'm very close to my mom, she is the person who taught me that dreams can come true and who did everything for me. My dad gives me his love for books and literature. I have some cousins who are bi-nationals : French and American.
From my youngest age, I have visited my grandma during the holidays. So, during the Winter season, we went skiing (my level is acceptable) and in the Summer we went walking or for a swim in a lake. She still often takes me and my oldest cousin to some trips and travels. With my mom I have also traveled a lot, we have visited some European countries most of the time: I love discovering new places. When I was 10, for my birthday my mom took me to London it was my dream and London is still my favorite city as I’m writing these words.
Thank you very much for having read this letter and I'm excited to perhaps be part of your family someday!
