Mia-Sophie
's Letter
Dear future host family,
First of all, I would like to thank you for giving me the incredible opportunity to make my dream of an exchange year possible, that means a lot to me!
I also hope that you are well, and before we will be able to get to know each other, I will tell you something about myself, my hobbies, my family and something about school, then something about my interests and about my character.
My name is Mia-Sophie, but everyone calls me Mia, so you can also call me Mia and I live in a small town, not far from a big city in Germany.
I also love to spend time in the city, usually with friends, then we go shopping or just spend a relaxing day there.
I also like to play handball, or generally like to do sports, such as swimming or Pilates at home. However, I am also interested in trying new things, for example, I have always wanted to learn tennis, maybe I can do that in the USA.
I'm actually quite good at school and I'm totally curious how different the school is with you compared to here.
Some of my favorite subjects are history or geography, so rather the social subjects and I hope that you also have them, but I am also looking forward to trying out other subjects that do not exist here in Germany.
However, school is not only learning, because I also spend a lot of time with my friends and I love it.
But I not only have friends at school also at handball, there I also met my best friend Diana and other totally close friends of mine, with them I have a good relationship throughout, which will hopefully remain over the exchange year.
In fact, I also have a job here in Germany, by a German handball league team, I also do that together with Diana and we have a lot of fun.
However, I also have other interests, for example I love to travel, because in other countries you always meet new people and a new culture - which I find simply beautiful.
But I'm also a big Formula 1 fan, since I've been watching it since I'm small together with my father and since then I love it.
But I also enjoy cooking and baking, maybe we can cook something together.
And I also love to read or learn new languages, at the moment I am learning Norwegian and at school I learn French.
And I love to go to the concerts of my friend Anna, she plays cello and piano professionally, which always sounds beautiful.
But my biggest interest remains handball and the coolest thing is that my father (Stephan) is also my coach, so I spend significantly more time with him, although it can also be really exhausting with my own father as a coach, but it works.
Nevertheless, trainer is of course not his main profession, because he actually works as an IT specialist at the Bar Association, an authority that controls lawyers.
And my mother (Peggy) is an team leader in the accounting department. I also have a good relationship with her, but we are both very spirited, which often leads to disputes, but never something that can't be clarified.
And then there is my brother (fynn), he is still a student, but still 2 years older than me.
We didn't have a good relationship in the past, but now I love having a big brother, because as an only child I think it's pretty boring. Also, our relationship has continued to improve over the last 3 years, which is really nice.
But now something specific about me and my character.
First of all, I have to say that I am a very introverted and shy person at the beginning, but that decreases more and more over time.
However, I also think that I am a very compassionate and kind person. I am also very team-oriented and I love to see the people around me happy.
But I still have a bad quality that often stands in my way. Because I'm actually a picky eater, which bothers a lot of people, but there's not much I can do about it.
But it's best to form your own opinion about me.
I am also very excited to become a part of your family and celebrate traditional things, such as thanksgiving, with you.
I am also looking forward to getting to know you and your culture and, as I said, am very grateful that you allow me to do this and to have seen the USA from my own eyes and not just from movies.
Love Mia.
