's Letter
Dear Host Family
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my letter and consider making my dream come true and offer me a home, far from my home, for a year.
I am a German, but also American young girl. My mom is a (like we call it) Deutsche Kartoffel (German potato) while my dad was born and raised in America. Therefor, I am very interested in this part of the world and am very grateful that something like an exchange year exist, that allows me to live like he did for a year- as a typical high school student.
I am a big bookworm. I like going on walks by myself or with my mom, one of my favorite activities is to play board games until midnight after a good dinner that I cooked with my mom, but I am also very passioned about school and sit at my desk for mutable hours to make sure that I end with a good graduation. If I had to describe myself, then I would say that I am more of an introverted person that loves to spend time with my family. I am a very caring, open-minded, motivated, kind and grateful person. I like spending time with my friends, but also need time for myself.
I did a lot of sports in the past. I tried ballet, karate, baseball, and Volleyball. But after all these sports, I have to say that my heart still beats for Gymnastics. My mom took me to my brother's lessons when I was 2 months old, so I basically grew up to be a gymnast. Sadly, I quit it after doing it for 11 years. That is my biggest regret. I tried some other sports after quitting, but my enjoyment for these sports flew by very fast. That is why I am thinking about starting gymnastics again. I also look forward to participating in a gymnastics or a different sporty club while my staying in the US.
My mom and dad got divorced when I was 2 years old, and since then I mostly lived with my mom. My mom is a public worker at a Waste disposal company. My dad is a materials handler. I have a 4 years older brother who just finished his A-levels. Because my brother and I mostly live at moms, we three are very close and care a lot about each other.
I feel like soccer plays a huge part in the German culture. Almost every city and village has a soccer club. Most kids and teenager plays soccer. It brings us together. When there is a match in our city, I can hear the people yelling, even though I live 2 miles away from the stadium.
After my brother came back from his exchange year in the US and told us about his experience, I got even more excited and can't wait to finally explore your culture myself. I hope to meet some cool people and have an amazing year at an American High School.
Warm Regards,
Dana
