For international students looking to join the best foreign exchange student program, AYUSA’s exchange program is a great option and doesn’t require students to be sponsored by a scholarship. 

It’s important for prospective high school exchange students to understand the costs involved with joining a student exchange program, which typically include:

Generally, school and visa costs are included in program fees, accommodation with a host family comes at no additional cost, and a majority of meals will be prepared by the host family for an international student, also at no cost to the student. 

Does AYUSA Offer Scholarships for High School Exchange Programs?

Currently, AYUSA doesn’t offer high school exchange program scholarships, but we are proud to work with the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study (YES) Program. Although we don’t offer scholarships for international students, we organize school placements and J-1 exchange visas, and assign a community representative (CR) to help ensure your exchange program is as positive as possible. Our program fees cover these costs—you won’t find any surprise expenses along the way!

The YES Program

The YES program is designed to improve cross-cultural understanding between students from the United States and those from countries with significant Muslim populations. This grant program, established in response to the events of September 11, 2001, is funded by the U.S. Department of State.

The program awards scholarships to high school students from more than 40 countries with significant Muslim populations, giving them the opportunity to spend up to a year living with a host family in the U.S., and to attend an American high school.
